[00:00:00] Speaker A: How many of you borrow cars? Or sometimes you rent cars when you're traveling and you know you got to fill up gas. Unless it's an electric vehicle, of course. But this actually applies to electric vehicles as well. Did you know that the icon on your dashboard that has that little gas little sign there has an arrow on it so you know what side to pull up on where the tank is. [00:00:29] Speaker B: Is your car still under warranty? [00:00:30] Speaker C: No, not anymore. [00:00:32] Speaker B: My mechanic just suggested an extended service plan from ox car care. [00:00:36] Speaker C: Ox car care? [00:00:37] Speaker B: Yeah. Ox will cover repair bills if anything happens to the car. New brakes, transmission, ac, or engine problems. Plus, aux car care offers free oil changes, tire rotation, and roadside assistance. [00:00:48] Speaker C: Wait, you pay nothing on repairs, ox gets it fixed. Free oil changes, free tire rotation, and free roadside assistance? [00:00:55] Speaker B: Yeah, you don't pay. Ox pays. Ox even has a 30 day money back guarantee and is a plus rated on the BBB. They handle their claims from start to finish, unlike those other warranty companies. [00:01:05] Speaker C: The last thing I need is an unexpected car repair bill. I'm calling ox car care now. [00:01:10] Speaker D: Call ox car care for your free quote. 800 238 1063. Ask about senior and military discounts. Don't get stuck with a major car repair bill. Call Ox Car Care. 800 238 1063. 800 238 1063, or go to oxcarcare.com. [00:01:36] Speaker A: Welcome to 3564, a podcast for the middle. I absolutely love collecting strange and unusual facts. They're fun to bust out during meetings or at parties or just in regular life when you just know how to do that strange thing and no one else does. I love that kind of stuff. In today's episode, I've got five facts that I think you're going to love that have to do with driving. Now, I know a lot of us drive. We commute. We pick up kids. We go to the grocery store. Most of us drive on a daily basis. These five facts are game changing. Let me dive into my first and one of my favorite tips that most people don't know. And you know what my dad told me? Did you know that in California and many other states, it is free to get air and water at a gas station? Now, I know many of you are like, Karen, that doesn't happen to me that much. You know, it actually happened to me just a few weeks ago. I rolled up and I went to put some air in my tire. And you know what? There was. It was quarters. It was asking me for, I think, 250. Now, that's not a ton of money, but it's free. It's a law that they have to supply it for free. So don't be the person who puts quarters inside a machine that is free at the gas station, all you have to do is walk straight in and say, hey bro, can you turn on the water for me? Can you turn on the air? They will. It's a legal requirement that they will give it to you for free. I would say 90% of the people who roll up to that pay and they have no idea it's a free service that is required at least by the state of California and many other states. So next time you have a flat tire, next time you need to add water to something in your car that is a free service, you do not have to pay for it. All you have to do is go inside to the attendant. Now that's not going to work really well if the gas station is closed at night, but otherwise it's open and it should be able for you to use for free. I would say 75% of people don't know that one. Next random driving fact. Did you know that the most common days to get a speeding ticket are the last two days of the month? Now there's a lot of conspiracy theories around this and the biggest one online that I sort of subscribe to here. Maybe if you're in a situation where you have to write people tickets, you're a cop, you can let us know. But the rumor is there's a quota every month, and in order for cities to meet their budget and for everyone to hit their specific goals, they need to write a certain number of tickets. Sort of makes sense to me. I don't know if you've experienced that, but let me know now. The other asterisks to this random fact is that the studies show that almost 75 plus percent of tickets are written for folks when they're speeding over 9 miles an hour over the speed limit. So if you're a racer out there, I certainly am not. I drive pretty, I don't know, pretty chill. But if you're gonna speed and you don't want a ticket, don't speed on the last days of the month and certainly don't go over 9 miles an hour over the limit. You're less likely buy tons to not get that speeding ticket. I hope that was helpful. Now, third tip, how many of you borrow cars? Or sometimes you rent cars when you're traveling and you know you gotta fill up gas, unless it's an electric vehicle, of course. But this actually applies to a electric vehicles as well. Did you know that the icon on your dashboard that has that little gas, little sign there has an arrow on it. So you know what side to pull up on, where the tank is. Now, I learned this after many, many, many wrong pull ups. Uh, I used to rent cars all the time, especially when I was traveling for business. And my car, it's on the left side, so that's where I'm kind of used to pulling up. But all you have to do is glance at your dashboard. Even in electric vehicles, it will tell you what side either the charging port is on or where you can put that gas in. Pretty cool, right? My next and probably favorite tip of all number four is why do people flash their brights? It is not a gang initiation. There's weird online rumors that that's some sort of gang initiation. No. The number one reason why people flash their lights at you is to warn you of a speed trap. I know. Did you know this now, I know this only because my dad taught me this. Unfortunately, he does speed around quite a bit and likes to hot rod around, but it's a way that you can communicate with other drivers, obviously, without having any audio. I have been saved the few times that I am going over the speed limit from tickets, from speed traps because some nice soul on the other side of the road was flashing their brights at me. So I'm always totally now the person who, when I see a speed trap, I try to warn as many people as possible within a reasonable distance. Now, some of you might be thinking, isn't that illegal? Actually, it is not. It is protected by your first amendment rights of free speech. I'll drop a link to a case that set that precedent, but it is not illegal to do that. And I highly encourage you to help others in the community if you think some sort of speed trap is going to get a bunch of people. And it's. I don't know, it just sucks getting a speeding ticket, doesn't it? So if you see someone flashing their brights, the number one reason why people do that is to warn you of a speed trap. Awesome. Okay. My last and strangest tip for you that I think you should give it a shot. I actually have tried this, and it works, is you're at a parking lot, it's huge. You don't remember where your car is. Maybe you rented a car and there's a parking garage, and, oh, my gosh, you just can't find where you're supposed to go. So what you do here is you hold the key fob against your body. You don't hold it out you hold it against your body and something about the liquid in your body, the composition, helps magnify the signal, sometimes two x. So if you're clicking around and reaching around, which what I used to do, now I know that I just hold that right up against my body. My body actually acts as an amplifier to that key fob, and the signal goes as much as two times further than it would have. Super cool trick. Try it in the next parking garage you're in. Okay, I'm going to throw in a very random, random fact. Nothing to do with driving, but something to do with your body. If your batteries are about to die or dead, if you hold them under your armpit, it will reactivate them for just a few minutes. Yes, I know that's weird, but it's a survival like tip that you get from those crazy survival books. It works. I've done it. I hope that you have some really strange facts that you now know as you make your way across town in your car. Have a great day, everyone.
