Show Notes

How can you enhance your sense of fulfillment and maybe even strengthen family bonds with just a few simple intentions?    In this episode, I share a simple yet transformative practice that goes beyond the typical to-do list. This is something I’ve been doing myself - creating an intention list. All it takes is three minutes. Reflect on your highest and best intentions for the day or week—what you want to prioritize, how you want to feel, and who you want to be. This isn’t about tasks, but about setting a mindful direction for your life, from connecting with loved ones to making time for self-care. You can start small. Try three intentions a day, and see how it shifts your outlook and sense of accomplishment. It’s a quick, powerful habit that can truly change your life!    ThirtyFiveSixtyFour is a podcast for listeners between the ages of 35 and 64. Available on all major podcast platforms, the show offers an engaging journey through the various challenges and experiences of midlife. ThirtyFiveSixtyFour presents a distinct departure from the traditional midlife crisis storyline. Instead, it champions the perspective that midlife should be viewed as a period marked by play, discovery, transformation and possibility. With new episodes released weekly, ThirtyFiveSixtyFour is positioned to become one of the fastest-growing podcasts of the year, providing both valuable insights and entertainment for those in the middle.    So, subscribe and get ready to join show host Karen and the ThirtyFiveSixtyFour regulars for both serious and fun conversations around living middle age to the fullest. After all, it’s not too late. You’re not too old. And you’re definitely NOT dead.

[00:01:17] Speaker B: To OX Car Care.com welcome to 35 64, a podcast for the Middle Today I am here to share a tip that has really been life changing for me. I think that if you can incorporate this on a regular basis in your daily routine weekly routine, you're going to reap some really big benefits. This doesn't cost any money. It takes you less than three minutes and it's transformative. So what do you think I'm talking about here? This is not actually your gratitude list that I normally would plug. I love gratitude lists. I try to do them as often as possible. My goal is always to write 10 things that I'm grateful for. Even on a terrible day. I try to write things like thank you for my bed. Thank you for these ice cubes coming out of my refrigerator so I can drink a cold drink. Thank you for this hot tea. Sometimes I have to get really basic. It isn't always easy doing gratitude lists, but they are life changing. I'm going to drop in dozens of studies here on why you should do one, how to do one. But like I said, this is not about a gratitude list. This is actually something I do after I write a gratitude list. And here's what it is. It's an intention list. So what does that look like? What do you mean Karen. So I am talking about you thinking through your next day. Or maybe this is thinking through your next week. What are my highest intentions? Who do I want to be? How do I want to feel? And this is not a to do list, okay? This isn't, you know, send in the quote to my customer, mop the kitchen, get through all my bleaching with my whites. No, no, no. This is not a to do list. This is an intention list. So let me tell you a couple of things that I write on my list. One of them, put my phone down, pay attention to my children, enjoy the soccer game, relax. This weekend, you need to sit down. You need some quiet time. Exercise with girlfriends. Journal. Journal about what you're feeling right now. Journal about your goals. Spend time with your auntie who's really sick. Make it to that church service that you haven't been to in a long time. Those are the kind of intentions that I'm talking about. They're mostly ways that you approach a situation, prioritizing how you want to feel and the ultimate outcome of what you want your day or week to look like. It's really basic. It takes three minutes. And it's something that I'd encourage you to lob onto your regular gratitude practice, if you don't already have one. Maybe just start with the intentions. We get so busy with work and family and obligations in the home, with our friendships and in everything else going on. It is so easy to blaze through a day and wonder, what in the world did I even get done? It was just a blur. I just made it through all these activities. But I am going to tell you, it feels really great to look back on this list and say, I did pay attention to my kids. I put the phone down. I went for a walk with Andy. I really, really needed that. I rested. I sat down and read a book. I know I have the tendency to go, go, go, but I prioritized the rest because it was on my intention list. Those are the kind of rewards that I feel. I feel good about that after I see an accomplishment, something that's checked off the box, something that is important to me, that is not a to do list. It's such a rewarding feeling. I'd encourage you to start maybe with just three things. Try to do that on a daily basis. Maybe even it's before you go to bed. My intention for tomorrow are these three things. I can't wait to hear if you put this into motion. I promise this is absolutely worth your time and effort. And you know what? I'm going to throw this out there. You might even want to do this with your partner, with your boyfriend, with your wife, with your children. What are the intentions for the week? I think it helps guide us in a more firm direction versus the to do list. I'm actually going to give this a try with my kids and see how it goes. Let me know if you're able to implement this into your regular routine. I can't wait to hear how it changes your outlook on what you've accomplished and what you hope to accomplish in the coming days and really the trajectory of your life. I think if we set our intentions on a regular basis instead of wandering without them, it can make a big difference. Thanks for listening everyone.
